The Children's Recovery Orympics(Rugby)

The Reconstruction Agency has taken the opportunity of the "Recovery Olympics" and the "Tohoku Destination Campaign (held from April to September)" to convey gratitude for reconstruction support and the appearance and charm of the affected area through traffic advertisements.
We introduce colorful photos of tourist attractions and ingredients in Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima prefectures with posters.
From the beginning of July, it will be posted on the JR Yamanote Line / car body, Tokyo Monorail Haneda Airport Terminal 1 and 2 station platforms, etc., so please have a look.

Rugby(2021.07.10 Kmaiashi Unosumai Memorial Stadium)

On Saturday, July 10, we held the Children's Rugby Reconstruction Olympics in Kamaishi City, Iwate Prefecture (Kmaiashi Unosumai Memorial Stadium), with the aim of promoting children's understanding of reconstruction and regional attractions by holding events for children from the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, such as rugby exchanges, learning about reconstruction, and experiencing food produced in the affected areas.
This event was limited to children from Iwate Prefecture which was held, and we prevented infectious diseases among the participants. On the day of the event, all participants, including those who were involved in the event, did not complain of any health problems and this event was successfully completed (all participants who underwent PCR and antigen tests prior to the event tested negative).

(1)Opening ceremony
In the greeting to about 21 primary school students from Iwate Prefecture who participated in the opening ceremony, Mr. Kameoka(Vice Minister) said that he hoped they would deepen their understanding of the reconstruction and the attractiveness of the region by learning about the reconstruction and experiencing a lunch using food from the disaster area, that the event was being held under strict countermeasures against the new coronavirus infection, and that he had high expectations for the children who will be an Olympic athletes. In addition, a welcome speech (Mr.Noda, Mayor of Kamaishi City) and a speech by the guest of honor (Mr.Tamotsu: Vice Governor of Iwate Prefecture) were given, and the player oath was made by Ms.Sasaki (player of the rugby team “Kamaishi Seawaves Junior”)

(2)Rugby class
The rugby class by Mr.Ono who is the captain of Kamaishi Seawaves and Mr.Nakamura who is the player president and the exchange match were held in a way to ensure the safety of the children from heat stroke and strict countermeasures against the new coronavirus infection.

(3)Exchanging with players of Kamaishi Seawaves
The players of Kamaishi Seawaves told importance of training for primary school students to be rugby players and the message of encouragement to play rugby.

(4)Experience food produced in the affected areas
For lunch, the children experienced eating food produced in the affected areas, which helped them understand the attractiveness of local food.

(5)Reconstruction study
The lecture by Ms.Kawasaki who is a storyteller of Tsunami Memorial Hall was held. She told her experience of the Great East Japan Earthquake and importance of preparation for saving themselves. She said natural disaster is unavoidable and it is important for disaster prevention to participate reconstruction study. Students told their impression that countermeasure for disaster, for example, evacuation drills at school, is significant and learn more about the Great East Japan Earthquake.

(6)Closing ceremony
At the closing ceremony, medals and victory bouquets were presented, and players of Kamaishi Seawaves gave general commentaries to the children. In addition, a closing speech (Mr. Kameoka, Vice Minister) (Mr.Noda, mayor of Kamaishi city) was given and Mr.Yamamoto, director-general of reconstruction bureau, delivered closing remark.
