The Children's Recovery Orympics(Baseball)

The Reconstruction Agency has taken the opportunity of the "Recovery Olympics" and the "Tohoku Destination Campaign (held from April to September)" to convey gratitude for reconstruction support and the appearance and charm of the affected area through traffic advertisements.
We introduce colorful photos of tourist attractions and ingredients in Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima prefectures with posters.
From the beginning of July, it will be posted on the JR Yamanote Line / car body, Tokyo Monorail Haneda Airport Terminal 1 and 2 station platforms, etc., so please have a look.

Baseball(2021.07.17 Shinobugaoka Stadium)

On Saturday, July 17, we held the Children's Baseball Reconstruction Olympics in Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture (Shinobugaoka Stadium), with the aim of promoting children's understanding of reconstruction and regional attractions by holding events for children from the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, such as baseball exchanges, learning about reconstruction, and experiencing food produced in the affected areas.
This event was limited to children from Fukushima Prefecture which was held, and we prevented infectious diseases among the participants. On the day of the event, all participants, including those who were involved in the event, did not complain of any health problems and this event was successfully completed (all participants who underwent PCR and antigen tests prior to the event tested negative).

(1)Opening ceremony
In the greeting to about 43 middle school students from Fukushima Prefecture who participated in the opening ceremony, Mr. Kameoka(Vice Minister) said that he hoped they would deepen their understanding of the reconstruction and the attractiveness of the region by learning about the reconstruction and experiencing a lunch using food from the disaster area, that the event was being held under strict countermeasures against the new coronavirus infection, and that he had high expectations for the children who will be an Olympic athletes. In addition, a welcome speech (Mr.Kohata, Mayor of Fukushima City) and a speech by the guest of honor (Mr.Suzuki: Vice Governor of Fukushima Prefecture, Mr.Kanno: Chairmaen of JA Fukushima, and Mr.Yagisawa: Chairman of Japan Baseball Promotion Association) were given, and the player oath was made by Mr.Sato (player of the baseball team “Iwaki Boys”)

(2)Baseball class
The baseball class by retired professional baseball players were held in a way to ensure the safety of the children from heat stroke and strict countermeasures against the new coronavirus infection.

(3)Opportunity to experience eating food made from ingredients produced in the disaster affected areas(Reconstruction study and Japan Self-Defence Forces performance)
For lunch, the children were given the opportunity to experience eating food made from ingredients produced in the disaster-affected areas, which helped them understand the appeal of local food. Ms.Aoki(Representative of “NPO Tomioka City 3.11 Talking Party”) talked about what happened in 10 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake and the cities and people that are walking toward “reconstruction”. The performance by the Japan Self-Defence Forces was held so that the children could do their best in the afternoon program.

(4)Baseball tournament
The baseball tournament (ball turning, base running and batter confrontation with retired professional baseball players) were held in a way to ensure the safety of the children from heat stroke and strict countermeasures against the new coronavirus infection.

(5)Friendly match
A friendly matchbetween the retired professional baseball player’s team and the selected team in Fukushima City was held.

(6)Closing ceremony
At the closing ceremony, medals, victory bouquets and autograph ball of retired professional baseball players were presented to the children. And ingredients from Fukushima Prefecture (Koshihikari rice from Aizu・Fukushima beef) were presented to most valuable player and valuable players.
In addition, a closing speech (Mr. Kameoka: Vice Minister and Mr.Satozaki:player of the retired professional baseball player’s team) was given.
