POINT

After the lifting of the evacuation order, the area of Fukushima Prefecture under an evacuation order was reduced from about 8.3% to about 2.4%.
*Area of the area under evacuation order: maximum about 1,150km2 (August 2013), current about 337km2 (from March 2020). Area of Fukushima Prefecture: about 13,783km2.

POINT

Surface decontamination was completed by March 2018, except for the areas in difficult-to-return zones. By FY2021, the government aims to have carried most of the removed soil, etc., generated by the decontamination into interim storage facilities (14 million m3).

The number of evacuees in Fukushima Prefecture fell from about 165,000 in May 2012 to about 37,000.
