State Minister Nagashima’s visit to Italy
(21-26 July, 2015)
State Minister Nagashima visited Italy to participate in EXPO Milano 2015, Tohoku Event Committee’s program “Tohoku×Italy Mariage of Food and Culture.” Taking this opportunity, Mr. Nagashima had meetings with officials of the government of Italy and the UN agency based in Italy.
In Rome, he met with Mr. Fabrizio Crucio, the Head of Civil Protection Department, Mr. Filippo, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, and Dr. Gustafson, Deputy Director-General of FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization). Mr. Nagashima expressed appreciation for warm support from Italy and FAO for the reconstruction from Great East Japan Earthquake, explained the current status of the reconstruction, and requested removal of import restriction of Japanese food product. The State Minister also visited L’Aquila city, affected by the earthquake in 2009, and had a meeting with Mr, Cialente, Mayor of L’Aquila. They shared their efforts for recovery from the earthquake, and visited the recovering sights in the city.
In Milan, Mr. Nagashima attended the opening ceremony for Tohoku exhibition at Expo Milano 2015 and made remarks representing the government of Japan. He also made a presentation on the current status of recovery and the measures to support the affected people. Mr. Nagashima had a meeting with Mr. Pasquino, Commissioner General of Expo Milano, and expressed his wishes for establishing friendly relations not only through the food culture which was the theme of Milano Expo, but also through the cooperation for disaster prevention.
