On 20 May 2013, Mr. Winfred Kretschmann, President of the German Upper House of Parliament Bundesrat, visited Mr. Takumi Nemoto, Reconstruction Minister. Mr. Nemoto expressed gratitude for the assistance from Germany and provided explanations on the current status and efforts regarding reconstruction. They also exchanged views on the possibility of further extending bilateral cooperative relations toward creating `New Tohoku' by referring to Germany's smart cities.
